Midwest CAD Solutions is seeking a Facility Rating Engineer to support their FAC‑008 Compliance Program within the Transmission Business Unit. This role is essential for ensuring accurate and compliant facility ratings that contribute to the safe operation of the Bulk Electric System, requiring collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance, feedback, and clarification to project teams to ensure facility rating models and processes are completed accurately and on schedule to meet compliance requirements
- Develop, maintain, and improve process documentation related to facility rating activities
- Serve as a subject matter advisor on facility ratings for the Transmission Business Unit, including delivering education sessions and technical presentations
- Understand and support the tools, applications, and systems used in the facility ratings process
- Ensure facility ratings are properly communicated to impacted internal and external stakeholders
- Support the creation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the Facility Rating Methodology (FRM)
- Stay current with evolving regulatory requirements and emerging topics such as Ambient Adjusted Ratings (AAR)
- Suggest and implement improvements to facility rating methodologies and processes
- Update and maintain the company’s Bulk Electric System (BES) lists
- Support compliance evidence development and audit readiness related to FAC‑008
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related engineering discipline)
- Strong working knowledge of FERC, NERC, and applicable regional regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with IEEE standards related to electrical equipment ratings
- Proficiency in both substation and transmission line ratings, including equipment ratings
- Experience calculating and applying transmission equipment and facility ratings, including use in EMS environments and coordination with ISO/RTOs
- Demonstrated ability to calculate ratings using an established Facility Rating Methodology (FRM) and applicable industry standards
- Experience determining facility boundaries and calculating facility ratings
- Knowledge and practical experience with FAC‑008 compliance requirements
- Ability to read and interpret transmission line and substation drawings, identify project scope, and extract equipment attributes from engineering drawings
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
