NEI Electric Power Engineering, Inc. is an engineering services firm dedicated to serving clients and solving problems in the electrical infrastructure sector. The Senior Electrical Modeling & Interconnection Studies Engineer will be responsible for power systems modeling, analysis, and interconnection studies for utility clients, ensuring compliance and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Develop PSCAD, PSSe and PSLF models for both generation and load projects in accordance with various interconnection processes and requirements
- Perform bulk power system studies and assessments using power system software such as PSSe, PSLF, and PSCAD
- Develop large load models and interconnection strategies for modeling and meeting complex grid connection technical requirements
- Perform various compliance technical assessments on facility rating, protection coordination, and various performance assessments (design and post-construction)
- Support regulatory compliance services for related project design phases from conceptual design through project testing and commission
- Support automation efforts to improve efficiency in performing EMT modeling, model quality testing and benchmarking
- Enhance relevant deliverable review and QA/QC processes to ensure project quality and schedules are maintained effectively
- Support the development of documents and reports associated with projects including proposals, cost estimates, budgets, and technical deliverables
- Assists with Client contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments and meetings
- Support utility design studies on an as needed basis, including but not limited to, short circuit analysis, reactive power/load flow, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonic (pre & post), ampacity, grounding, as well as other related studies and calculations
- Maintains a strong understanding and application of applicable Codes and Standards
- Maintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships
- Maintains high ethical and professional standards
- Support and mentor junior team members in addressing complex technical modelling and interconnection issues
- Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
- Attends safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
- Other job-related responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred
- 5 – 10 years of relevant engineering experience
- FE, PE is a plus, but not required
- Proficiency with PSSe, PSLF and PSCAD power system modeling software
- Possesses effective written and oral communications skill
- Good interpersonal and people skills
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
