The Role
Technology and AI (including generative AI) are central to IHG’s digital and operational strategy, and we’re strengthening AI governance to support responsible, secure use.
Corporate Counsel – Technology & AI provides legal support across the Global Products & Technology (P&T) teams and the AI lifecycle (with emphasis on generative AI, data-driven products, and emerging tech), partnering with Information Security, Compliance, and Privacy to enable innovation while managing legal, regulatory, and reputational risk.
The role sits within the legal team supporting P&T, but will work closely with the ethics and compliance function and will coordinate with broader Business Reputation & Responsibility (BRR) functions.
Your Day-to-Day
Legal Strategy & Risk Management
- Advise on global legal, regulatory and reputational risks associated with procuring and deploying technology platforms, including AI and generative AI solutions, across corporate and consumer-facing systems, and work with compliance and risk and assurance teams to develop strategies for addressing risks.
- Work with compliance team to monitor, interpret, and operationalize global AI laws and frameworks and provide practical guidance for business teams.
- Support AI risk assessments and other internal reviews and audits relating to new AI tools and new uses of existing tools.
- Brief senior leaders on technology and AI legal trends, enforcement, and risk posture.
Governance & Policy Development
- Partner with legal colleagues (including privacy), Information Security, and P&T teams to build and maintain technology and AI-specific governance, standards, and responsible-use policies.
- Define and champion risk-based legal guardrails, and advise technology and AI working groups and steering committees as technology and processes mature.
Vendor Engagement and Business Partnership
- Draft, review, and negotiate technology agreements with providers and strategic partners, including AI-specific terms.
- Build relationships with global P&T teams to be fully engaged and present to provide real‑time legal advice on proposals for new technology developments and AI uses, features, and tools.
- Collaborate with privacy and legal teams supporting commercial and marketing, operations, HR and other teams on AI‑enabled personalization, automation, and other initiatives.
- Develop and work with compliance to deliver training and awareness sessions to legal and business stakeholders on AI legal developments and risks, governance processes and controls, and responsible-use principles.
What We Need from You
Education
Bachelor's Degree and a Juris Doctor Degree. Member of the Georgia State Bar in good standing (or a member of another state’s bar with the ability to become a member of the Georgia State Bar).
Experience
- 4-10 years’ experience practicing law, with first-hand experience in diverse technology-related transactions and other projects, particularly those involving AI deployment.
- Experience with technology-related regulatory frameworks (including those specific to AI), responsible AI programs, and data governance as it relates to AI.
- In-house and law firm experience, including with complex technology platforms and products, cyber security, and international aspects of legal risk assessments, as well as experience working cross‑functionally with technical, product, and business teams in a fast‑moving environment.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to set legal strategy and manage complex, evolving matters in AI and technology.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills for AI and other technology agreements (e.g., SaaS, hardware, technology platforms).
- Excellent judgment, research and writing, and executive-ready communication skills with an ability to develop legal strategies and translate legal requirements into practical, commercially-focused advice.
- Demonstrated stakeholder-management skills and ability to function effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary legal team.
Location – Atlanta, GA. Our hybrid work structure includes an expectation of three (3) days a week in the office. This expectation may be adjusted to evolve with the changing needs of the business.
The salary range for this role is $150,000 to $185,000. This role is also eligible for bonus pay (as applicable). We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401K, and other benefits to employees.
