The SCADA Engineering Lead will design and optimize SCADA systems for utility-scale assets, ensuring compliance and operational stability across various markets.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize SCADA systems for utility-scale assets operating in ERCOT and other nodal markets
- Oversee plant communications, telemetry, and control system integration to ensure reliable, real-time performance
- Establish scalable SCADA standards that support portfolio growth and long-term infrastructure strategy
- Align plant controls, protection schemes, and telemetry systems with ERCOT nodal protocols and regulatory requirements
- Partner with grid operators and internal teams to maintain compliance across commissioning, validation, and operations
- Proactively identify and resolve system vulnerabilities to maximize uptime and operational stability
- Lead complex technical initiatives across engineering, asset management, and operations
- Support plant commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance optimization with disciplined engineering judgment
- Strengthen vendor and EPC partnerships to implement best practices in industrial automation and controls engineering
- Architect and maintain networking and plant communication systems that ensure secure, resilient operations
- Troubleshoot plant-level controls and telemetry systems to quickly diagnose and resolve performance issues
- Continuously improve system monitoring and reporting to enhance visibility and long-term asset reliability
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience), with emphasis in power systems or controls engineering
- 8+ years of experience in utility-scale power generation, independent power producers, or clean energy environments
- Direct experience supporting large-scale power plants within ERCOT or similar nodal markets
- Proven expertise in SCADA architecture design, deployment, and optimization
- Strong foundation in power engineering fundamentals, protection coordination, and grid interconnection standards
- Working knowledge of ERCOT market, telemetry, and compliance requirements
- Experience with industrial automation, networking, and plant communications systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary technical initiatives and influence cross-functional stakeholders
- Established relationships with grid operators, EPCs, SCADA vendors, and industrial controls providers that enable effective coordination and rapid issue resolution
- Deep understanding of utility-scale asset commissioning, telemetry validation, and compliance reporting
- Analytical, detail-oriented mindset with the ability to balance systems thinking and hands-on troubleshooting
