Sargent & Lundy works on behalf of clients to support utility-scale thermal, solar, wind, battery energy storage, and other power generating and infrastructure projects. The Mid-Level Civil Engineer will perform civil engineering reviews and analyses to support the development, design, construction, operation, and financing of power projects.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with civil engineering reviews, including storm water drainage, sanitary sewer systems, road design, and earthwork
- Support preparation and review of site layout, grading, and preliminary drainage designs
- Prepare and review technical specifications to define construction requirements
- Work with senior consultants to advise power project developers
- Evaluate new power and infrastructure projects independently to support financing
- Develop technical reports for applicable audiences – including owners, developers, governmental agencies and committees, and financiers
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
- 4+ years of experience in design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, calculations, and models
- 2+ years of experience in detailed design of site grading and drainage, storm sewer systems, road design, transport plans, track design, and ponds
- Power plant (combined cycle, simple cycle, nuclear, wind, solar) project design experience
- Experience in writing and providing support documentation for Civil Engineering specifications or calculations
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to prioritize multiple parallel, fast-paced tasks within schedule and assigned budget
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical evaluation report writing
- Proficiency with civil engineering software programs such as Civil 3D, StormCad, PondPack, and Mircrostation or AutoCad
- Must be capable of working in geospatially located tools
- Master's degree in civil/structural engineering or business (e.g., MBA) discipline
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Data analysis and visualization
- Project finance or business acumen
- Conceptual project design
- Construction project management and/or scheduling software knowledge
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others
- Project planning, leadership, and organizational skills
- Experience in overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks
- Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields
