Autodesk is redefining how products are conceived, engineered, and manufactured, and they are seeking a Senior Principal UX Designer to shape the future of AI-powered product development workflows. This role involves defining the UX vision for next-generation workflows, designing system-level interactions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver user experiences that are scalable and technically grounded.
Responsibilities:
- Define the UX vision and strategy for next-generation AI-powered workflows within Autodesk Fusion and related platforms
- Design system-level workflows that span ideation, parametric modeling, simulation, automation, and manufacturing
- Invent and prototype new interaction paradigms that integrate computational design, generative techniques, and AI assistance into intuitive creation environments
- Architect node- and graph-based automation experiences (5 years+ ) (e.g., Bifrost, Dynamo, Grasshopper-style systems) that make complex logic accessible and powerful
- Translate real-world product development processes — including multi-product systems and configurable product ranges — into coherent digital workflows
- Collaborate deeply with product, engineering, research, and data science to deliver scalable, technically grounded user experiences
- Contribute to a unified Autodesk design system capable of expressing multi-modal workflows (AI agents, parametric logic, 2D/3D modeling, simulation, collaboration, versioning)
- Lead by doing: elevate teams through systems thinking, rapid prototyping, storytelling, and a strong point of view on the future of design tooling
Requirements:
- 15+ years of experience in UX, industrial design, mechanical engineering, or computational design
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, UX, or related field
- Proven experience designing tools or workflows used in product development, industrial design, or mechanical engineering
- Strong understanding of: Parametric and generative modeling, Computational design systems, AI-assisted creation workflows, Design-for-manufacturing principles
- Experience with node- and graph-based environments (e.g., Autodesk Bifrost, Dynamo, Grasshopper, or similar automation systems)
- Experience designing workflows for systems-level or configurable product development, not just single artifacts
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical systems into clear, intuitive user experiences
- Strong collaboration with engineering teams building deeply technical platforms
- Master's degree in Design, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline
