The Simulation Technician is a non-exempt staff member that will provide technical skills to support the use of simulation in the Simulated Environment Teaching Hospital (SETH) at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University. The Simulation Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment, media, computer, and materials related to simulation learning and a virtual and simulated hospital/healthcare setting. This position provides technical support to the simulation administrators, faculty and staff, in addition to providing information and assistance to students and community members participating in simulation education. #CB

- Simulation Lab Operations
- Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Simulation Leaning Experience (SLE); assist in operating and maintaining high-fidelity simulators, laptops, audio-visual equipment, and supplies
- Technical Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems, arrange, assemble, and store equipment, props, and moulage for SLE
- Theatrical Production for Simulations
- Provide theatrical production elements (i.e. prop placement, costuming, moulage, etc.) for simulation scenarios, including creating fake body fluids and wounds for realism
- Technical Support
- Provide technical support for task trainers and multimedia peripherals such as beds/examination tables, patient monitors, medication dispensing systems, and vital sign monitors
- Department Procedures and Safety
- Maintain safe conditions, ensure OSHA compliance and EPA certifications, assist in collecting and evaluating simulation data, and maintain simulator warranty agreements
- Accreditation and Compliance
- Participate in the accreditation process, ensure safety policies are carried out, and provide recommendations for budget and purchases related to simulation and simulated hospital
- Event Participation and Training
- Participate in SETH-related events (i.e., Open Houses, SIM Week, Summer Camps, etc.), provide technical assistance and training to faculty, instructors, and staff, and engage in educational endeavors to maintain currency with simulation technology
- Professional Development and Skills
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Simulation Technology and Best Practices
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, and management skills
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Other Duties as Assigned
- Perform other job-related activities, as required, ensuring timely set-up for scheduled simulations, effective communication with manufacturers, and staying current with simulation technology advancements
EXPERIENCE
- Five (5) years of experience in a healthcare and/or IT setting
- Additional job-related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
EDUCATION
SPECIAL SKILLS
- Ability to use audio/visual equipment, including video cameras
- Experience in keeping records and inventories of laboratory supplies and equipment
- Experience in maintaining simulation equipment and troubleshooting needs for repair
- Proficiency in working with computer systems
- Experience with varied laboratory conditions involving mechanical, electrical, lifting hazards, digital cameras and microphones
- Experience with computerized systems
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use photo production equipment; Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
