The Intersect Group is partnered with a leading enterprise retailer seeking a Cloud Engineer with expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role focuses on designing and optimizing cloud infrastructure to enhance engineering platforms and system reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Partner closely with engineering, platform, and reliability teams to enhance system performance, scalability, and resilience
- Support and evolve platforms across key areas, including: Engineering tools and developer workflows, QA, testing, and lifecycle environments, Observability systems such as monitoring, logging, and tracing
- Apply an AI‑forward mindset to drive automation, accelerate development velocity, and improve overall engineering efficiency
- Approach cloud engineering with a strong cost‑awareness (FinOps) perspective by: Designing solutions with efficiency and long‑term sustainability in mind, Identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary spend or eliminate duplication, Evaluating how architecture decisions influence cost, scale, and usage
- Contribute to broader SaaS optimization efforts by enabling efficient tool integration and responsible usage across the ecosystem
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure solutions align with organizational priorities and long‑term strategy
Requirements:
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering, with a primary focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- A cloud-native background, having built modern, cloud-first environments
- Experience supporting scalable, production-grade systems within large or complex organizations
- Exposure to platform engineering, infrastructure, or reliability-focused initiatives
- Familiarity with systems that support developer platforms, CI/CD, QA/testing, or observability
- An interest in FinOps concepts, with a foundational understanding of cloud cost and usage optimization (certification not required)
- A thoughtful, curious approach to how systems are designed, adopted, and continuously improved
- Working knowledge of modern AI-powered tools that enhance engineering productivity
- Experience working in retail or other highly complex enterprise environments
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools and practices, such as Terraform
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern developer tooling
