Media Source is home to trusted brands like Junior Library Guild and Library Journal, and they are seeking a highly skilled Associate Systems Integration & Data Automation Engineer. This role is central to maintaining and expanding the technical infrastructure that supports the team's core workflows, focusing on system reliability, automation, and data integration.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain, repair, and ensure daily reliability and security of our Virtual Book Room, which is built on SharePoint and uses PowerShell-driven automation
- Improve PostgreSQL queries, logic, and structure for better performance across our large PostgreSQL-based database system
- Brainstorm, design, and drive modernizing and strengthening our tech stack, including automation, workflow improvement, security, and integrations
- Evaluate and implement AI tools and capabilities that can streamline our processes, improve data access, or support editorial and operational needs
- Create or refine automations that move and prepare data for internal stakeholders; collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure data is accessible, accurate, and aligned with organizational needs
- Work independently on technical implementation while collaborating closely on requirements and direction via regular check-ins
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of and experience with current best practices for cybersecurity in relation to programming, automation, databases, and AI
- Expert-level PowerShell scripting for automation, system building, debugging, and process improvements
- Experience utilizing Python, JavaScript, Ruby and other scripting languages to automate processes and transform data
- Experience building and maintaining SharePoint automated systems, including scripted integrations and workflow automation
- Experience utilizing Power BI or Tableau to create data dashboards and reports
- Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL, including database design, query building and optimization, stored procedures, and troubleshooting
- Ability to build, improve, and repair technical systems involving PowerShell automation and SQL-based backend components
- Ability to develop AI-enabled workflows and agents that integrate into existing systems
- Experience with utilizing Copilot in a production environment preferred
- Strong proficiency with automation architecture, REST APIs / webhooks, and Git
- Experience in environments that require cross-department collaboration
- Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to work independently on complex technical challenges
- Excellent written and verbal communication—able to document systems, explain processes, and translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to think with us about the full technical architecture of our unit—able to be inventive and forward-thinking and collaborate, brainstorm, and explore exciting possibilities while remaining grounded in editorial needs and priorities
- Experience with utilizing Copilot in a production environment
- Knowledge of and experience working in a library environment is strongly preferred
- Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator, Azure Data Engineer, or DevOps Engineer)
- Microsoft 365 or SharePoint-related certifications
- Database certifications, particularly those focused on PostgreSQL or relational database management
- Certifications in automation, DevOps, or infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform or similar tools)
- Experience with or certification in AI/ML technologies or applied AI solutions
- Foundational security or systems certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+ or equivalent)
