In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership, ensuring that activities operate safely and conform to quality standards and project requirements.
Responsibilities:
- On a medium to large (PFE Tier I - <$250m) job, performs the duties of a lead engineer in either an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or as a Project Field Engineer, coordinating all activities related to the operation of assigned operating section
- Proactively engages with their teams’ development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work
- Coordinates with design on constructability issues
- Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials
- Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented, adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely
- Possesses responsibility for coordinating between Construction and Startup to ensure the various system walkdowns are performed, interfacing with the Startup Specialist as required to support component/system turnover and assuming responsibility (as required) for area turnover coordination as determined by the PFE
- Reviews and approves inspection test plans, Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals
Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
- Owns field quality execution and assurance
- Deep knowledge of project specs, codes, ITPs, and Bechtel quality systems; ensures right-first-time installation across disciplines
- Leads quality planning and readiness
- Integrates quality requirements into AWP and field execution; verifies inspection points, hold points, and documentation are ready before work starts
- Manages inspections and nonconformance
- Coordinates field inspections, reviews and dispositions NCRs, drives corrective actions, and prevents repeat issues
- Controls quality data and turnover
- Ensures accurate records, test results, and as-builts; supports system completions and clean handover to commissioning and the client
- Acts as quality problem-solver and leader
- Coaches field engineers, superintendents, and craft on standards and expectations; escalates systemic risks early
