Position Overview
The Service Delivery Public Safety IT Team is seeking an experienced Cloud / Platform / Systems Specialist to support senior technical resources in delivering enterprise infrastructure modernization initiatives.
This role is critical in advancing hybrid cloud capabilities by integrating on-premises systems with AWS cloud services, improving scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency while reducing dependency on legacy infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure & Engineering
- Design, implement, and maintain hybrid infrastructure integrating on-premises environments with AWS cloud services.
- Administer and optimize AWS services, including EC2, VPC, IAM, and S3, to support enterprise workloads.
- Develop and implement hybrid workload architectures ensuring seamless identity, authentication, and application integration.
- Lead migration efforts from legacy systems to AWS, including readiness assessments and modernization roadmaps.
- Create and maintain detailed architecture diagrams, including network topology and service dependencies.
Advanced Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide Tier 3 (L3) support for complex infrastructure issues escalated from Service Desk, Applications, and Networking teams.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to AWS identity, networking, and compute services.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and document mitigation strategies.
- Troubleshoot hybrid environment issues such as directory synchronization failures, IAM misconfigurations, and routing conflicts.
Performance Optimization & Reliability
- Ensure platform resilience by eliminating single points of failure.
- Implement and manage backup, disaster recovery (DR), and RTO/RPO strategies.
- Monitor and optimize performance across compute, storage, and network layers.
- Identify and implement cost optimization strategies, including instance rightsizing and storage lifecycle management.
Automation & DevOps Enablement
- Define and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with automation teams on Terraform module design and deployment frameworks.
- Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure delivery across environments.
- Partner with engineering teams to optimize workloads for hybrid cloud environments.
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain comprehensive documentation covering architecture, operational procedures, and automation workflows.
- Prepare change impact assessments and release documentation for infrastructure updates.
- Ensure consistency across platform standards, governance policies, and automation artifacts.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and enforce AWS security best practices, including IAM role-based access control (RBAC), MFA, encryption, and network segmentation.
- Support audit and compliance initiatives by producing required documentation and evidence artifacts.
- Develop platform hardening guidelines and policy interpretation documentation.
- Deliver executive-level summaries of modernization initiatives and platform improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in cloud, platform, or systems engineering roles.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3).
- Proven experience designing and managing hybrid cloud environments.
- Expertise in AWS IAM and RBAC controls (mandatory).
- Experience in cloud migration and modernization initiatives.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills in complex environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Ansible for automation.
- Knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
- Strong understanding of FinOps, including cloud cost estimation and optimization.
