Who You Are:
The Pest Control Technician is a field-based role responsible for delivering pest management services to residential and/or commercial customers. Technicians perform scheduled and on-demand treatments, complete all required service documentation, communicate professionally with customers, and operate in full compliance with company policies, state pesticide regulations, and label requirements. This role works under the direct supervision of a Service Manager – Pest Control as required by applicable state law.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Service Delivery
- Perform scheduled pest control services for residential and/or commercial accounts on assigned route
- Identify and assess pest activity, conducive conditions, and evidence of infestation at each property
- Apply pesticides and pest management materials in strict accordance with label directions, company protocols, and state regulations
- Install, monitor, and service bait stations, traps, and other pest management devices
- Perform interior and exterior treatments using appropriate equipment (sprayers, dusters, bait guns)
- Identify and communicate structural deficiencies or conditions contributing to pest activity to customers
- Complete follow-up and callback services as assigned, ensuring customer satisfaction
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all required service records for every visit — including products applied, EPA registration numbers, amounts used, target pests, treatment areas, and re-entry intervals
- Record customer notification delivery and ensure all documentation is submitted on the same day
- Use company mobile software or paper records to complete service reports accurately and on time
- Report any product discrepancies, spills, or application errors to the Manager immediately
- Maintain personal license documentation and ensure credentials are current and accessibl
Customer Communication
- Arrive on time, in clean uniform, with a professional and courteous demeanor
- Communicate re-entry interval requirements clearly at every service — verbally and in writing as required
- Leave service documentation (door hangers, service reports) when customers are not present
- Notify/document customers of any unusual pest activity, damage observed, or recommended follow-up actions
- Escalate customer complaints or concerns to the Manager — do not attempt to resolve warranty or service disputes independently
Vehicle & Equipment
- Conduct pre- and post-shift vehicle inspections and report any mechanical issues
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked service vehicle always
- Safely transport, handle, and store all pesticide products per DOT and company requirements
- Properly clean, maintain, and store all application equipment after each use
- Ensure all required placards, permits, and documents are current and present in the vehicle
Safety
- Wear and properly use all required PPE (personal protective equipment) for every application
- Follow all company safety protocols and OSHA guidelines
- Immediately report any accidents, pesticide exposures, or near-miss incidents to the Manager
- Attend all required safety training meetings and complete assigned safety courses
- Never apply a product without reviewing the label first — the label is the law
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED accepted)
- Valid state pest control technician license or registration — OR ability to obtain within 90 days of hire (varies by state)
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record acceptable to company insurance requirements
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
- Basic reading and writing skills sufficient to complete service records and follow product labels
- Reliable, punctual, and physically capable of performing field work in variable conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of pest control, lawn care, or related field service experience
- Existing state pest control technician license or registration
- Familiarity with common structural pests: termites, ants, cockroaches, rodents, bed bugs, mosquitoes
- Experience using pest control business software or mobile service apps
- Customer service or field service experience in any industry
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Physically demanding outdoor and indoor work in all weather conditions
- Regular lifting and carrying of equipment and chemical containers up to 50 lbs.
- Crawlspace and attic access — must be able to work in confined, low-clearance spaces
- Exposure to pesticide chemicals — proper PPE required and provided by company
- Bending, kneeling, and working in awkward positions is routine
- Early morning start times — typical schedule is Monday through Friday with some Saturday availability required
- Driving a company vehicle daily — clean driving record is mandatory
