Principal Engineer

Electric Power Engineers (EPE) is focused on designing the grid of the future and is seeking a Principal Engineer to join their Energy Resources team. The role involves performing power system studies, developing models, and providing technical leadership while supporting clients and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

• EMT Studies: Perform power system studies such as temporary overvoltage, switching overvoltage, insulation coordination, harmonic, flicker, transient recovery volage, energization, lightning overvoltage etc
• Model Development: Develop dynamic generator/load models, perform disturbance ride through model tuning and perform PSCAD/PSSE model benchmarking
• Steady State Studies: Perform steady state studies such as load flow, short circuit and power quality
• Specialization: knowledge of datacenter equipment dynamic and conventional generation equipment dynamic is an asset
• Technology: Proficiency in power system modelling software such as PSCAD, PSSE, ETAP or equivalents
• Familiarity with other specialized software such CDEGS, COMSOL, CYMCAP, EMTP, PowerFactory WinIGS etc is an asset
• Compliance: Strong understanding of relevant industry standards such as IEEE/IEC/CIGRE
• Client Management: Provide advisory support to generation, large load and merchant transmission developers
• Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives
• Technical Leadership: Lead, teach and mentor junior level Power Systems Engineers

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience in power system modelling and power system studies
• Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering with power system emphasis
• Proficiency in power system modelling software such as PSCAD, PSSE, ETAP or equivalents
• Strong understanding of relevant industry standards such as IEEE/IEC/CIGRE
• Experience with Data Center equipment dynamics is an asset
• Experience with conventional generation machine dynamics is an asset
• Experience with control system tuning is an asset
• Knowledge of datacenter equipment dynamic and conventional generation equipment dynamic is an asset
• Familiarity with other specialized software such as CDEGS, COMSOL, CYMCAP, EMTP, PowerFactory WinIGS etc is an asset
