ABOUT THE ROLE Our client is seeking a motivated Associate Cloud Engineer for a contract-to-hire position based in Charlotte, NC, with a hybrid work schedule (4 days onsite, 1 day remote). This entry-level opportunity is ideal for candidates with foundational experience in Linux system administration and scripting who are eager to expand their skills in a highly technical, hands-on environment. You will work closely with senior engineers to support critical platform administration, environment builds, and cloud/on-prem infrastructure operations. The role offers the chance to develop long-term expertise in cloud technologies, infrastructure automation, and platform engineering best practices, with exposure to AWS, on-prem, and future Google Cloud Platform environments.
WHAT YOU'LL DO- Shadow senior systems engineers during full platform builds and configurations
- Learn and assist with installation workflows, firewall setup, and configuration steps
- Support access-related tasks, including IAM administration
- Support administrative tasks across multiple platform teams
- Perform low-complexity, hands-on system administration activities
- Participate in environment builds across AWS and on-premises infrastructure
- Support future expansion into Google Cloud Platform environments
- Perform system installation, configuration, patching, and firewall management
- Own system updates, patching, and remediation work
- Support Linux-based platforms using Bash scripting and other automation tools
- Troubleshoot systems and assist in incident resolution
- Utilize and develop proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure automation (training provided)
- Contribute to ongoing platform and environment improvements
WHAT YOU BRING- Experience with Bash scripting
- Proficiency in Python or Node.js (or willingness to learn)
- Linux system administration (configuration, patching, server support)
- Knowledge of AWS services (S3, Lambda)
- Strong hands-on mentality and willingness to engage in technical tasks
- Ability to shadow and learn from senior engineers
- Familiarity with installation workflows, firewall setup, and IAM tasks
- Interest in infrastructure automation and Terraform (training provided)
- Comfortable supporting administrative tasks across platform teams
- Willingness to learn Google Cloud Platform and expand cloud skills (upskilling available)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Motivation to develop long-term expertise in cloud and platform engineering
