EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Graduate degree from an accredited law school, LL.B., or J.D. Degree and a minimum of four (4) years of legal experience required. Membership of Georgia Bar Association. Minimum of 2 years litigation experience required. Must have high communication, management and leadership skills, and the ability to demonstrate success in a sophisticated and complex work environment. In lieu of a degree, directly related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.
SUMMARY
Responsible for providing general legal representation of the Authority and its employees in mediation, arbitration, and litigation in defense of claims; assisting in the negotiation and settlement of claims prior to litigation; pursuing cost recovery of claims by the Authority against third parties; and rendering legal advice as required. Responsible for providing advice and legal counsel to various Authority staff on a broad range of employment-related matters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the development and deployment of employment compliance-related policies and practices, especially ones aimed at risk mitigation and management.
Provides advice to clients concerning compliance with applicable federal and state statutes, rules, and regulations affecting MARTA.
Drafts and negotiates a broad range of agreements, opinions, policies, and Authority position statements on employment-related matters.
Responsible for providing general legal representation in mediation, arbitration, and litigation in defense of claims.
In charge of defending and litigating lawsuits involving a variety of employment-related claims and charges of discrimination.
Represents and defends the Authority before union grievance arbitration hearings, and in public hearings.
May be called upon to present training material on relevant subject matter to MARTA departments
Perform other related duties as assigned, including Transit Ambassador assignments.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Membership of Georgia Bar Association in good standing.
