Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Project Manager with extensive experience in High Voltage Transmission and Substation projects to lead the Early Stage (Pre-Construction) project lifecycle. This role will oversee project planning, budgeting, scheduling, procurement coordination, and stakeholder management to ensure projects are fully prepared for successful handoff into construction execution.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background managing large-scale utility infrastructure projects, leading cross-functional teams, and maintaining alignment across engineering, permitting, land, environmental, procurement, and legal functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Early Stage development process for transmission and substation projects.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including Engineering, Estimating, Supply Chain, Construction, Environmental, Legal, and Land.
- Develop and maintain project scope, schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation plans.
- Ensure projects are ready for construction with an executable project plan.
- Prepare and manage RFPs for engineering, equipment, geotechnical, survey, and construction services.
- Support cost estimating teams with assumptions and financial model inputs.
- Monitor project budgets and ensure projects remain within approved funding.
- Identify and communicate project risks, changes, and mitigation strategies to leadership.
- Manage a portfolio of projects across assigned regions in the US and Canada.
- Provide project status updates and executive-level presentations to senior leadership.
- Lead and mentor junior project managers where required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree or equivalent work experience
- 8+ years of project management experience in utility or infrastructure projects
- Experience with high voltage transmission and substation projects
- Strong expertise in:
- Project budgeting
- Scheduling
- Stakeholder management
- Risk management
- Contract administration
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to balance scope, cost, and schedule simultaneously
- Willingness to travel up to 30%
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP Certification
- Experience managing multiple projects valued over $100M
- Experience leading direct reports or project teams
- Strong business and commercial acumen in utility construction environments
