General Function:
Under the supervision of the Director of Administrative Services and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA, the Senior Accounting Specialist leads the accurate and timely entry and reporting of the Association’s financial information. This leadership position is responsible for supporting business functions throughout the Association.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or 2 years’ experience supporting bank reconciliations and financial closeouts.
2. Must be detail-oriented and possess a strong knowledge of business practices.
3. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
4. Must be able to quickly master proprietary software (e.g., point of sale, purchasing card administration, fundraising, and accounting software).
5. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
6. Must be organized and possess high attention to detail.
7. Must demonstrate leadership and the ability to work well with others.
8. Must be able to work independently, set priorities, and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
9. Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 required within 60 days of hire.
10. Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Blood borne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
11. Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.
12. Contingent upon acceptable credit report results.
Essential Functions:
1. Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
2. Promote a professional work environment through character development by modeling the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
3. Within areas of responsibility, lead the accurate, and timely processing and proper recording of Association financial transactions in the general ledger and subsidiary accounts based on the Association’s internal basis of accounting.
4. Manage, maintain, and ensure completeness of filing system for original source documentation.
5. Prepare monthly journal entries to include regular import of revenue, payroll, and purchasing card transactions into the accounting software.
6. Prepare financial institution reconciliations on a monthly basis.
7. Monitor daily operating bank account activity.
8. Responsible for Association 1099 Filing.
9. Supervise and lead the Accounts Payable Staff in providing timely payment of Association payables to include Purchasing Card and Check Requests.
10. Assist in the preparation of work papers for annual audit and other miscellaneous projects.
11. Participate as part of the finance team in supporting the business functions at the Center level.
12. Assist the finance team with collections-related entries and processes.
13. Assist the VP of Finance/Controller and Director of Administrative Services in conducting accounting software training.
14. Fulfill all other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Two (2) Accounting Clerks who provide Accounts Payable functions as well as Business Administration to the local Centers.
• Indirectly work with Center Services personnel.
• Indirectly work with local Center Office personnel.

Skills and Ability Requirements:
◦ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents.
◦ Ability to master proprietary software (point of sale, purchasing card administration, fundraising, and accounting software) and Office software Excel, Word, and Quicken).
◦ Ability to meet the physical demands of this position, which include mobility for travel to onsite support of Centers (various locations as needed), conferences, touring facilities, properties and participating in promotional and special events sponsored by the Association.
◦ Ability to manage and maintain accounting records.
◦ Ability to supervise and coach staff.
◦ Ability to manage numerous projects and met deadlines.
◦ Ability to identify cash handling and reconciliation issues.
◦ Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 10 lbs.

The Senior Accounting Specialist will directly impact the integrity of the corporate general ledger, Association financial reporting, and other assigned financial projects.
