The Cybersecurity Intern will assist members of Pittsburgh Water’s Technology Services team tasked with protecting the organization from ongoing cyber threats. As a critical infrastructure provider, Pittsburgh Water plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of our customers and the broader Pittsburgh region. This role provides hands-on exposure to real-world cybersecurity operations while building foundational skills in monitoring, investigation, and risk reduction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Research and develop a vendor risk management policy in collaboration with Technology Services and other Pittsburgh Water stakeholders.
• Classify vendors according to the established risk management policy.
• Complete vendor risk assessments of high priority vendors.
• Participate in vulnerability scanning efforts.
• Assist in executing phishing simulations and cybersecurity awareness campaigns for Pittsburgh Water employees.
• Provide updates at team and departmental meetings to communicate the status of assigned project work.
• Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Ability to research and apply detailed technical concepts from sources like leading cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF.
• Administrative skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to establish and maintain accurate records and prepare reports/correspondence.
• Effective organizational and interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of general office procedures, practices, and equipment.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements list the minimum education/training/experience required to qualify for this job. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted.
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must present a current, valid Class C (Class 1) PA Motor Vehicle Operator’s License at the time of application or prior to appointment. A valid driver’s license must be maintained throughout employment.
Applicant must have permanent residency within one of the following Pennsylvania counties at the time of appointment and remain a resident within one of the noted counties throughout employment with the Pittsburgh Water: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Lawrence, Indiana, Washington, or Westmoreland.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / RECEIVED
No direct reports / Will receive supervision directly from the Cybersecurity Manager and/or other members of the Technology Services leadership team.

CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a moderate or quiet noise level in the office work environment. Subject to remain on duty beyond normal hours or during emergency situations or other extensive periods.
The position may also include occasional field work in urban and rugged environments and various weather conditions.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Employment may be contingent upon the results of a post-offer (initial employment or promotion) physical examination performed by the Authority's examining physician.
DRUG TESTING
Employment may be contingent upon the results of a post-offer (initial employment or promotion) drug screening. Continued employment may be subject to randomized drug and alcohol testing conducted without advance notice and for reasonable suspicion.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION
Ability to successfully pass a thorough investigation consisting of a criminal history check, verification of prior employment and performance, reference, and credentials checks, and in some cases credit history.
