Qualifications:
Currently enrolled as Junior, Senior or recently graduated from an engineering program.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Local to Springfield MO, or willing to commute.
Position Summary:
The Design Engineer Intern will assist in new product development, including research, design, testing, and prototyping. They will also perform research for, validate, and implement changes to designs and/or processes.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment; address any unsafe conditions or behaviors with a supervisor
- Assist in new product development, including research and design, testing, and prototyping
- Properly document all research and design activities, testing, and prototyping
- Provide support to ongoing manufacturing operations by developing better parts and/or processes for production of existing product line
- Research, validate, and implement changes to designs and/or processes through an ECN process
- Create and update 3D CAD drawings and 2D shop prints for new and existing product lines
- Research and perform validation testing for new vendors, parts, and materials
- Utilize Lean manufacturing tools to deliver results
- Organize materials at work station and department according to 6S standards
- Perform other related and non-related duties as assigned through on-the-job training
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Entering Junior or Senior class level at an accredited college; major in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or similar
- Software experience: Microsoft Office Suite, 3D CAD Software

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position is subject to Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity
- The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach, performing mechanical or skilled trades’ tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
