Pay Range: $ 16.39/hr for Counselors and $16.89/hr for Lead Supervisors. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.
All positions are Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Because this appointment is temporary, you will not be eligible to receive all of the benefits normally provided to members of the university staff under the standard University of Colorado benefits programs. You are not eligible to receive paid vacation leave, medical, or retirement benefits. However, you are eligible to accrue sick leave and you will accrue 0.034 hours of sick leave per hour worked.
Summary
Campus Recreation’s mission supports the UCCS mission by providing students and the campus community with diverse programs, outstanding facilities and educational experiences that support the development of a healthy mind, body and spirit. We enhance the campus experience through programs and services that focus on student development, promotion of a healthy lifestyle and provide opportunities for social interaction. Campus Rec will hire 4 counselors and 2 lead supervisors from this postings applicant pool. Those with previous camp experience will be considered for lead supervisors and those without previous camp experience for the counselor positions. The camp will run from 6/01/2026 - 7/31/2026.
The Lead Supervisor for the RecKids Program supports the daily operations and overall success of camp programming under the direction of the Program Director. This role assists with staff supervision, helps implement engaging, age-appropriate activities, and ensures a safe, organized, and inclusive environment for all participants. Responsibilities include maintaining schedules and records, enforcing safety procedures and policies, supervising campers during all activities, addressing behavioral concerns, and supporting camper needs. The Lead Counselor also builds positive relationships with participants, families, and staff while contributing to a clean, well-managed program environment.
The RecKids Counselor supports safe, engaging, and inclusive programming by supervising participants and leading a variety of activities. This role ensures camper safety by following policies and emergency procedures, assists with participant needs, and helps maintain a clean and organized environment. Counselors also address behavior concerns appropriately and build positive relationships with participants, families, and staff while modeling professionalism and teamwork.
Essential Functions
The duties and responsibilities by positions include, but are not limited to:
Counselor
Engage participants during all year round RecKids programming to include but not limited to Summer Camps Kids Night Out, and Birthday Parties.
Oversee and actively participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including swimming, climbing, arts and crafts, teambuilding games, educational sessions, tournament games and more. Includes locker room supervision.
Assist participants with belongings, lost-and-found, sunscreen/hydration, trash pick-up, and all aspects of quality customer service.
Ensures RecKids program safety and security, enforces all safety and risk management policies.
Resolve disciplinary problems appropriately; complete incident and accident reports as needed.
Maintain good relationships with parents of participants.
Serve as role model in maintaining hygiene and cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up duties, sportsmanship and good manners.
Enforce Campus Recreation facility, program and pool policies, procedures and regulations.
Lead age-appropriate engaging games, projects, stories, sports and activities during all RecKids programming including set-up and tear-down.
Remain educated on emergency procedures and ensure procedures are followed when necessary, and all RecKids participants are accounted for.
Attend RecKids staff meetings.
Must commit to working a minimum of 15 hours/week during the summer (including weekend and evening hours).
Complete CSA Training within first month of hire.
Additional duties as requested by RecKids Administrative Staff.
