Energy Systems Group (ESG) is looking for a Solar Solutions Intern to join their team. This role involves optimizing solar energy production, implementing innovative technologies, and collaborating with various teams to develop solar photovoltaic projects. The Development Engineer will lead technical strategies, perform analyses, and ensure project compliance while managing work professionally and timely.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct site assessment to determine solar energy and related technologies potential
- Analyze energy consumption and develop strategies for solar and related technology integration and optimization
- Perform energy savings calculations, life-cycle cost analysis, and ROI modeling
- Design and development of battery storage, solar photovoltaic and related technology systems
- Prepare technical designs, schematics, and proposals for solar projects
- Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical customers both internal and external
- Proactively reviews and/or interprets problems or patterns related to design to limit risk and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. As appropriate, solves issues or elevates to appropriate senior engineering members for team review and resolution
- Provides support to the regional development engineering, construction, and sales teams
- Serve as the subject matter expert for battery storage, solar technologies, codes, and standards
- High understanding of statistical and data analytics
- Stay updated on the latest solar technologies and industry trends
- Works to secure and maintain relevant professional certifications and licenses (e.g., Professional Engineering license)
- Work closely with Project Managers to ensure smooth installation and commissioning
- Approve equipment specifications and ensure compliance with project requirements
- Adheres to the strict safety standards of ESG and clients
- Requires a responsible, self-starter who can handle multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in business, law, finance, engineering, math, or related field with two or more years' experience, or eight or more years verified experience associated field
- Strong statistical analysis and excellent interpersonal communication, analytical and sound business writing skills required
- Proven track record in designing and implementing solar PV systems and energy efficiency measures
- Familiarity with Federal and State renewable energy programs, incentive structures, and M&V protocols (IPMVP, FEMP)
- Proficiency in solar design software (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering (ABET accredited preferred)
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Certifications such as NABCEP, CEM, or CMVP highly desirable
