Crescent Solutions is seeking an experienced fire safety engineer with expertise in UL 9540 / 9540A and NFPA 855 for utility-scale battery energy storage systems. The role involves serving as the primary technical authority on fire safety and code compliance, reviewing test reports, evaluating fire protection designs, and representing the company with regulatory bodies.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical authority on BESS fire safety and code compliance
- Review and approve UL 9540A test reports (cell through installation level)
- Evaluate and sign off on fire protection system designs and third-party safety analyses (HMA, FMEA, CFD, heat-flux modeling)
- Develop and maintain standardized templates, checklists, and documentation for consistent use across all projects and regions
- Represent the company with AHJs, Fire Marshals, first responders, and regulatory bodies; deliver training and presentations as needed
- Participate in relevant NFPA, SFPE, EPRI, and UL committees to stay current and help shape future standards
- Support supplier onboarding and third-party testing programs
Requirements:
- 5+ years of direct experience with UL 9540, UL 9540A, NFPA 855, and IFC requirements on shipped BESS products
- Proven track record reviewing large-scale fire test data and safety analyses
- Comfortable presenting technical material to firefighters, code officials, and regulators
- Existing working relationships with major NRTLs (UL, Intertek, CSA, etc.)
- Willing to travel 20–30% for site visits, training sessions, and industry meetings
- Former UL/Intertek staff experience
- P.E. license in Fire Protection
- Active committee participation
