Hatch Pros is seeking a Senior Business Analyst with deep expertise in XML and semantic markup to support the evaluation and evolution of markup standards. This role is essential for expanding workflows to include non-book and modular content, particularly in the education and training market, and involves collaboration across various stakeholders to define technical standards.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, maintain, and evolve XML based semantic markup standards, with a focus on non book and modular content
- Own and define the governance and update model for markup standards, including: How changes are proposed, reviewed, approved, versioned, and communicated How the model is sustained and evolved over time
- Serve as a subject matter expert for XML schema design and semantic structures
- Define and support new use case extensions (e.g., structured case study boxes or new modular components), including: Clarifying semantic intent Providing example XML patterns Assessing schema and workflow impacts
- Ensure markup standards support: Modular content architectures Reuse and component based publishing Multi channel and multi product delivery
- Translate abstract or emerging business needs into clear, enforceable technical standards
- Collaborate with editorial, product, engineering, and external partners to resolve semantic, structural, and governance issues
- Produce clear, durable documentation, including: Markup standards and schemas Governance and decision guidelines Example XML illustrating what good looks like
Requirements:
- 3 5+ years of hands on experience with XML, including: Defining, managing, or evolving XML schemas; Owning or supporting semantic markup structures
- Strong working knowledge of XML BITS 2.0
- Proven experience supporting non book content and/or modular content
- Demonstrated experience evaluating and evolving semantic markup models in complex environments
- Strong understanding of modular content architectures, reuse strategies, and component based publishing
- Ability to translate conceptual business requirements into concrete, technically enforceable standards
- Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder facilitation skills
- Strong, foundational understanding of XML itself, including semantic modeling, element/attribute design, schema constraints, and governance
- QTI experience (strong plus)
- Working knowledge of: XSLT (supporting skill); XLIFF
- Familiarity with schema aware XML editors (e.g., Oxygen or similar)
- Experience in the education or training market
- Exposure to JSON or related formats is a plus, but XML is the primary focus
