NEI Electric Power Engineering, Inc. is an engineering services firm focused on serving others and improving continually. They are seeking a Substation Project Engineer to lead the physical scope of multi-disciplinary substation projects, perform engineering design and analysis, and ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with NEI standards.
Responsibilities:
- You will perform engineering design, analysis, and review for physical substation deliverables, including
- Substation general arrangement, site plan, and elevations views
- Grounding plan and details
- Conduit plan, trench plan, and details
- Lightning protection design and layout
- Illumination design, plan, and details
- Bill of materials
- Engineering calculations including bus and conductor sizing and lightning protection
- Equipment specification development and vendor submittal reviews
- Ensuring compliance with NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and client-specific standards
- Use of AutoCAD, 3D modeling tools, Visual Lighting, Mathcad, and other industry-standard engineering tools
- Lead supporting engineers and designers to develop quality physical design packages
- Manage deliverables and deadlines to ensure they are submitted on time for both internal QA/QC deadlines and external deadlines to the client
- Perform preliminary QA/QC review of designer and engineer work for overall quality, accuracy, and conformance to client specifications and required codes
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership for scope, budget, schedule, and design execution
- Mentor junior engineers and designers in substation design practices
- Develop go-bys, templates, and technical standards
- Assist in the enforcement of technical standards across assigned projects
- Work with project managers to maintain project discipline schedules, budgets, estimates to complete (ETC) hours, and change orders
- Work closely with Principal Engineer and Team Lead on complex projects
- Review contractor and vendor submittals for technical compliance
- Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
- Complete safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelors in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited institute
- Experience: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Licensure: FE/PE preferred
- Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to mentor others
- Authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis
