Mutual of Omaha is seeking an experienced Information Services Manager (ISM) to lead the transformation of their Individual product Customer and Policy data platforms. The role involves balancing the stability of existing systems while driving innovation through the modernization of operational data systems, utilizing a domain-driven, microservices-based architecture.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team that supports two legacy, monolithic operational systems (one COBOL based and one Java based) that underpin core Individual product Customer and Policy capabilities
- Stand up and lead a modern Customer & Policy data capability, making our Operational Data Vision a reality through domain centric, event driven data products
- Build, coach, and retain a highly performing, inclusive team through clear expectations, accountability, recognition, and growth opportunities while also recruiting and developing the right mix of skills to support both legacy and modern data capabilities
- Champion Mutually Connected values and promote an inclusive employee experience and encourage self-directed teams and intrinsic motivation while addressing performance issues directly and constructively
- Ensure compliance with SDLC, incident, problem, change, and audit standards while demonstrating effective financial stewardship across labor, vendors, and tooling
- Apply Organizational Change Management practices to guide teams through transformation and champion Agile and SAFe principles while balancing flexibility with discipline
- Build strong peer relationships across technology, architecture, and business teams and manage vendors and external partners through effective statements of work, cost controls, and performance metrics
- Lead teams responsible for mission critical, monolithic operational platforms supporting Individual product Customer and Policy capabilities and improve operational sustainability by addressing workflow inefficiencies, unplanned work, and support load
- Redesign intake, prioritization, and execution models to improve transparency and predictability while also stabilizing delivery while preparing platforms for gradual modernization and integration with future data capabilities
- Establish domain-aligned, event-enabled microservices and data products that improve agility, scalability, and data consistency across the platform. Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Data Governance, and Platform teams to implement modern data patterns
- Ensure forward-looking initiatives are protected from operational drag while remaining aligned to enterprise standards and use Customer & Policy as a reference domain for how operational data should be delivered across the enterprise
Requirements:
- Comfortable leading teams across legacy and modern technology stacks, acting as a solution owner, not just a people manager
- Influence experienced engineers and stakeholders with strong technical perspectives while balancing empathy with accountability and decisiveness
- Experience leading teams through legacy-to-modern application transitions and can thrive in ambiguity and can translate vision into executable plans
- Communicate clearly across technical, business, and executive audiences
- 5+ years of Information Systems or technology leadership experience, or equivalent combination of leadership and technical experience
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business, or equivalent experience
- Experience with domain centric or event driven data architectures and exposure to data mesh, knowledge graph, or operational data modernization initiatives
- Background supporting large-scale operational systems in regulated or complex enterprise environments and formal training in leadership or change management
- Demonstrated success leading teams through operational stabilization and modernization and proven ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries to deliver complex solutions
- Strong understanding of data platforms, pipelines, and hybrid legacy/modern architectures
