ABB is a global leader in mission-critical high-power, high-performance motors and drives, and they are seeking a Senior Application Engineer to support industrial customers by tailoring ABB products to meet their specific application requirements. This role involves serving as a key customer-facing technical resource, ensuring technical excellence, and driving business growth through collaboration and mentorship.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and understand true customer needs, delivering highly customized VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) and Motor application solutions that meet both technical requirements and commercial goals
- Coach and mentor other Application Engineering team members
- Communicate and present solutions clearly and effectively to diverse audiences
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (sales, feeder manufacturers, quotation teams, etc.) to maximize impact and influence during the sales phase
- Position the organization as the regional knowledge hub for ABB Motion High Power Division products and their applications
- Share expertise by training internal teams, external partners, and channel representatives
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and 10+ years of experience in a technical and customer facing engineering discipline
- Deep knowledge and insights on both Low voltage and Medium Voltage VFD's (Variable Frequency Drives), motors, and industrial fieldbus systems, etc
- Previous Formal Mentorship experience of application/sales engineers
- Track record of developing relationships with variety of technical and commercial audiences and decision makers
- Exceptional verbal and written communicator, skilled at simplifying complex technical topics. Flexible in adapting communication style to suit diverse audiences and environments
- Highly self-motivated with a proven ability to identify and solve complex problems
- This role involves domestic and some international travel – about 30% requiring a valid US Driver's License and US Passport
- Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
