Job Title: API Technical Lead
Location: Baltimore, MD (On-Site, with hybrid model)
The healthcare project team is looking for a highly experienced API Technical Lead with strong expertise in Healthcare Interoperability, FHIR APIs, HL7 integrations, Enterprise Application Integration, and cloud-native API architecture. The ideal consultant will lead enterprise integration initiatives, design scalable healthcare APIs, and support CMS interoperability mandates using modern API, cloud, and CI/CD technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise-level API and integration architecture initiatives across healthcare systems.
- Serve as the FHIR API Lead supporting CMS Interoperability Rule 0057-F.
- Design and develop secure RESTful APIs using FHIR, HL7, JSON, XML, SOAP, and related healthcare standards.
- Build and implement FHIR-based healthcare data exchange solutions on AWS cloud platforms.
- Develop reusable enterprise integration frameworks, standards, and architecture guidelines.
- Work closely with architects, developers, and business teams to align integration solutions with enterprise architecture.
- Create mappings between source and target systems including:
- HL7v2
- FHIR
- CCDA
- X12
- JSON/XML
- Flat files
- Databases
- Provide technical leadership on API scalability, security, governance, reliability, and performance optimization.
- Support CI/CD automation pipelines using Git, Jenkins, and DevOps best practices.
- Participate in architecture governance reviews and enterprise integration strategy discussions.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership across Agile teams.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration and interoperability issues.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years of overall IT experience.
- 3+ years working as Technical Lead / Solution Architect / Integration Architect.
- 2+ years of hands-on FHIR implementation experience.
- Strong experience with:
- HL7
- FHIR Resources & Profiles
- CCDA
- REST/SOAP APIs
- Enterprise Integration
- API Security
- Strong cloud integration experience with AWS.
- Experience with MuleSoft or Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) technologies.
- Strong Object-Oriented Programming experience (Java preferred).
- Hands-on experience with:
- Git
- Jenkins
- CI/CD pipelines
- Agile/Scrum
- Knowledge of:
- SOA architecture
- JMS/EMS
- API governance
- Healthcare interoperability standards
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Master s Degree preferred.
- Experience supporting State/Federal healthcare projects.
- Experience with CMS interoperability initiatives.
- Experience in Medicaid/Healthcare payer systems.
Education
Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
