Lockheed Martin is a leader in aerospace and defense, seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer for their Missiles & Fire Control Advanced Programs team. The role involves developing and executing system safety programs, ensuring safety compliance, and leading safety assessments across missile and fire control programs.
Responsibilities:
- Developing hazard analyses, safety assessments, and risk based mitigation strategies for hardware, software, training, and procedures
- Defining and applying safety criteria, ensuring they are reflected in system architecture, specifications, and test plans
- Preparing clear technical presentations, reports, and safety documentation for internal stakeholders and customers
- Leading System Safety Working Group meetings, driving consensus, and tracking action items
- Reviewing design changes, configuration updates, and specification revisions for potential safety impacts and recommending corrective actions
- Participating in accident/incident investigations, identifying root causes, and implementing lessons learned across the program line
- Maintaining compliance with government and industry safety standards (e.g., MIL STD 882, ARP 4761) and supporting safety certifications as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in an engineering discipline
- Experience developing and implementing a System Safety Program IAW MIL-STD-882
- Developing and evaluating system safety requirements
- Familiarity with implementing a Software Safety Program IAW AOP-52 and DoD guidelines
- Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and its associated analyses
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to make formal presentations to large groups
- Interacts well in a team atmosphere with engineers, suppliers, program managers and customers
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
- Experience supporting independent government Safety Review Boards
- Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering
- Familiarity with missile and launcher systems
- Secret clearance with current 6-year background check
- Model-based engineering knowledge
- Experience with DOORS requirements application
- Candidate should be a self-starter capable of performing tasks with little direction
- Effective analytical problem solving skills, the ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy
- Able to learn and work with System Safety specific software tools
