System Safety Engineer Sr

Lockheed Martin is a leader in aerospace and defense, seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer for their Missiles & Fire Control Advanced Programs team. The role involves developing and executing system safety programs, ensuring safety compliance, and leading safety assessments across missile and fire control programs.

Responsibilities:

• Developing hazard analyses, safety assessments, and risk based mitigation strategies for hardware, software, training, and procedures
• Defining and applying safety criteria, ensuring they are reflected in system architecture, specifications, and test plans
• Preparing clear technical presentations, reports, and safety documentation for internal stakeholders and customers
• Leading System Safety Working Group meetings, driving consensus, and tracking action items
• Reviewing design changes, configuration updates, and specification revisions for potential safety impacts and recommending corrective actions
• Participating in accident/incident investigations, identifying root causes, and implementing lessons learned across the program line
• Maintaining compliance with government and industry safety standards (e.g., MIL STD 882, ARP 4761) and supporting safety certifications as needed

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in an engineering discipline
• Experience developing and implementing a System Safety Program IAW MIL-STD-882
• Developing and evaluating system safety requirements
• Familiarity with implementing a Software Safety Program IAW AOP-52 and DoD guidelines
• Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and its associated analyses
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to make formal presentations to large groups
• Interacts well in a team atmosphere with engineers, suppliers, program managers and customers
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
• Experience supporting independent government Safety Review Boards
• Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering
• Familiarity with missile and launcher systems
• Secret clearance with current 6-year background check
• Model-based engineering knowledge
• Experience with DOORS requirements application
• Candidate should be a self-starter capable of performing tasks with little direction
• Effective analytical problem solving skills, the ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy
• Able to learn and work with System Safety specific software tools
