Avaneer Health is a remote-first healthcare technology company focused on healthcare data interoperability and platform infrastructure. The Staff Software Engineer is responsible for senior-level technical execution, reliability, and scalability of Avaneer Health’s technology platform, providing deep technical leadership across product development, integrations, and data pipelines within a regulated healthcare environment.
Responsibilities:
- Own system architecture, technical design decisions, and engineering tradeoffs across the platform, including hands-on design, full stack development, and maintenance of secure, reliable, and scalable production systems, integrations, and data pipelines
- Establish and uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, deployment, observability, logging, monitoring, and documentation
- Ensure engineering teams deliver high-quality, production-ready software on predictable timelines
- Identify and proactively address technical debt, scalability risks, and reliability concerns
- Participate in Scrum activities - standup, refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives
- Participate in production support and technical escalation as needed
- Partner closely with Product and leadership to assess roadmap feasibility, sequencing, technical dependencies, and communicate risks and tradeoffs clearly
- Communicate platform capabilities, integration approaches, and technical decisions to external stakeholders
- Ensure engineering practices align with HIPAA, SOC 2, and internal security requirements
- Partner with IT / InfoSec on access controls, audits, incident response, and security initiatives to promote a culture of security, reliability, and operational ownership
- Collaborate with Operations to support implementation readiness and production stability
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and coaching to Senior Software Engineers and Software Engineers
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and technical evaluation of engineering team members
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including senior or lead-level responsibilities
- Strong hands-on experience designing, building, and operating production systems in AWS, Golang, Node.js, React, Typescript/JavaScript, Pulumi, and Terraform
- Experience working with integration-heavy architectures and data pipelines
- Experience working in a Scrum team
- Demonstrated ability to operate in regulated or security-sensitive environments
- Proven ability to guide technical teams through ambiguity, scale, and change
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on experience leveraging LLMs or AI/ML to improve data workflows, developer productivity, or product capabilities
- Experience in healthcare or highly regulated industries
- Familiarity with interoperability standards such as FHIR, HL7, or EDI
- Experience supporting HIPAA and/or SOC 2 compliance efforts
- Experience contributing to scaling engineering teams or platforms
