The Sr. Project Manager will lead the execution of statutory readiness projects, collaborating with various teams to mitigate compliance risks and protect revenue through effective planning and AI integration.
Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end execution of statutory readiness projects, ensuring on-time delivery with zero preventable customer impact
- Improve understanding across Compliance, Product, Engineering, Government Relations, Finance, and Sales to translate statutory change into system, process, and customer readiness outcomes
- Find and address risks, dependencies, and execution gaps across teams
- Apply AI tools to analyze regulatory inputs, improve readiness tracking, and identify new risks or dependencies earlier in the SRR lifecycle
- Establish scalable SRR operating mechanisms (intake, governance, tracking, and reporting)
- Lead incident response for compliance events, including resolution and prevention improvements
- Define and track program metrics (readiness, risk, execution velocity, and revenue )
- Influence senior team members using data-driven recommendations
- Represent Avalara in discussions with jurisdictional partners strengthening Avalara's credibility and regulatory partnership posture
- Create post-mortem reviews that convert lessons learned into systemic process improvements
- Enhance team capability by sharing AI best practices and contributing to broader adoption
- Use AI to synthesize regulatory changes and create structured risk insights
- Apply AI to improve meeting documentation, action tracking, executive-ready summaries, and communications, reducing administrative overhead while improving clarity and quality
- Analyze trends and risks using AI to improve readiness planning
- Measure AI impact (cycle time, risk reduction, execution efficiency)
- Ensure responsible and secure AI usage when handling customer, regulatory, or incident-related data
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, English, Political Science, Public Administration, Finance, or a related field
- 5–7+ years of program/project management experience in environments
- 3+ years of experience managing regulatory, compliance, or operational risk programs
- Experience promoting understanding across technical and business teams
- Applied experience using AI to improve execution, or scale
