Ryder System, Inc. is a leader in transportation and logistics solutions, and they are seeking a Senior Manager Environmental Engineer to oversee environmental projects ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards. The role involves managing environmental due diligence, supervising engineering staff, and optimizing project execution to support business growth and risk reduction.
Responsibilities:
- Manage execution of FMS 15-year Fuel Storage Tank Management Plan for select regions including analysis and project completion - Provide direct project supervision necessary for specific site projects and direct Project Engineers (PE) and Manager Environmental Engineering staff in order to complete new fuel tank installations, upgrades and removals in accordance with Ryder & regulatory requirements
- Manage the Building Materials Assessment Program in support of Corporate Building Initiatives and other facility construction projects engaging and directing junior staff
- Manage Environmental Due Diligence required for Ryder Acquisitions - perform environmental site assessments, review findings and assist junior staff in developing operational contingencies associated with site specifics, oversee groundwater monitoring and site remediation projects, supervise management & technical requirements related to property clean-up & remediation projects, waste water, storm water management, and subsurface soil and groundwater investigations
- Ensure environmental project standards and engineering practices are completed in accordance with Environmental Capital and Financial Reserve standards and Ryder standards, including obtaining approvals in accordance with company capital expenditure authority policies
- Design and manage the installation of vehicle maintenance facility lubricant and compressed air systems to meet the requirements of the operating fleet and financial guidelines
- Manage supplier qualifications and the competitive bidding processes for services related to environmental consulting, contracting and laboratory services
- Manage projects consistent with Ryder accounting and financial reporting guidelines, with emphasis on maximizing reimbursement from the State Trust Fund Reimbursement programs and on fixed assets financial management policy
- Oversee repair & maintenance of the Ryder fueling infrastructure to minimize long term costs, maximize system uptime, and extend useful life. Develop and maintain current knowledge on fuel system components and Ryder design standards
- Supervise Project Engineers and Manager, Environmental Engineering staff, manage Company SPCC, Industrial Waste Water and Storm Water Management Programs and manage supplier relationships and associated services related to environmental consulting, contracting and laboratory services
- Remain current on environmental regulations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local mandates
- Provide environmental technical support and solutions to the FMS field organization
- Support maintenance initiatives – Future Fuel Island , diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), automated self serve fueling, alternative fuels
- Manage and Perform Phase I & II Real Estate Environmental Site Assessments to support Ryder’s due diligence on property & company acquisitions. Identify and manage environmental conditions incident to acquisitions/occupancies and property dispositions
- Manage and direct hazardous building materials assessment and abatement projects supporting construction and repair programs
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Ability to communicate and collaborate across multiple functional areas of the organization, at all levels
- Strong communication, organizational, and Office Word, Excel, and Project capabilities
- Confident and experienced in collaborating and interfacing with state/local environmental regulatory agencies
- Leadership skills to include enthusiastic mentoring and motivation of junior staff on Environmental Engineering and Environmental Services teams
- Proven track record of building and motivating regional/national contractor, engineering, lab, and supplier project management teams to deliver cost effective, timely, and successful project results
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, geology, environmental sciences, project management, or related fields
- 10 years or more experienced in managing site assessment and remediation project post UST removals
- 10 years or more in extensive experience in monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining, upgrading, and replacing underground and above ground fuel tank systems and related infrastructure
- 10 years or more in progressive project management responsibility with emphasis on underground and above ground fuel storage and dispensing infrastructure in a regional or national operating environment
