Position Summary
Provides skilled technical support for the electrophysiology service.
Key Responsibilities
- At physician’s order, performs specialized ocular testing on patients using complex electrophysiological instrumentation to obtain information for use by physicians in diagnosing patient ocular illness.
- Performs comprehensive clinical ocular testing on patients using electrophysiology instrumentation within physician order and referral. Demonstrate proficiency in performing all ocular electrophysiology procedures.
- Verifies appropriateness of referral, contacting physician as necessary; performs testing autonomously at physician referral; including instillation of pupil dilation drops and electrode placement. Reviews patient medical history/record and selects, administers and interprets a wide variety of specialized tests and measurements.
- Provides information and instructions to patients about how the exam is performed and what is required of the patient. Establish relationships with patients and attend to physical and emotional needs.
- Prepares equipment generated reports, correspondence and other materials for internal/external referring physicians and other providers as needed according to established documentation standards.
- Maintains records of tests conducted, archiving computer/test results as needed.
- Maintain liaison with Ophthalmology administrative and clinical staff regarding scheduling and other technological matters.
- Responsible for proper maintenance of equipment (cleaning, calibration, sterilization, etc.). Practice sterile techniques and prevent cross-contamination.
- Maintains supplies and quality control in accordance with hospital, departmental and area standards.
- Assist with preventive maintenance of equipment to minimize technical malfunction. Make appropriate adjustments to equipment and patients in the event of an equipment failure.
- Develops clinical knowledge and skills through participation in professional organizations, attending continuing education programs and other related internal and external resources.
- May recommend, initiate, and participate in research projects, prepares journal articles and conducts presentations at seminars and workshops.
- Participate in research projects and scientific publications; contribute to data collection for research and scientific publications through clinical electrophysiology examinations; formulate scientific publications singularly in cooperation with physicians.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:Experience:
- Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through a Bachelor’s degree; science, clinical-based preferred but not required.
