BairesDev is a leading technology solutions company delivering innovative projects globally. They are seeking a Stream Processing Engineer with expertise in Apache Flink internals to work on the Flink engine itself, focusing on runtime, scheduler, and state backend at petabyte scale.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute production-grade code to the Apache Flink project
- Debug and optimize Flink internals — runtime, scheduler, state backend, checkpointing, backpressure — at petabyte scale
- Improve performance and scalability of stateful stream processing in production environments
- Profile and tune JVM behavior (GC, memory layout, concurrency) at the engine level
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and open source committers on integrations and ecosystem work
- Mentor senior engineers and raise the engineering bar through code reviews and design critiques
Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience in software development
- Strong Java skills
- Experience with distributed systems and concurrent or parallel programming
- Working knowledge of stream processing concepts: stateful processing, event-time semantics, checkpointing, or backpressure handling
- Familiarity with JVM performance characteristics (GC, memory, threading)
- Advanced level of English
- Upstream contributions to Apache Flink (merged PRs in runtime, scheduler, state backend, or connectors); committer status is a strong plus
- Experience operating Flink at petabyte scale in production
- Exposure to the lakehouse ecosystem (Iceberg, Hive, Kafka, Hadoop)
- Kubernetes-native deployment experience
- Experience with adjacent streaming frameworks (Spark Streaming, Kafka Streams, Apache Beam)
