Sargent & Lundy is a consulting firm that supports utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage, thermal power, and other power and infrastructure projects. The Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer will perform high quality design and consulting services as part of multidisciplined project teams for challenging domestic and international projects.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare geotechnical reports and calculations for conformity with project specifications
- Prepare specifications for subsurface investigations, deep foundations, ground improvement, earth retaining systems, monitoring wells, water production wells, and general earthwork
- Advise power project developers to support new utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage, thermal, and other projects
- Evaluate new power and infrastructure projects independently to support financing
- Develop technical reports for applicable audiences – including owners, developers, governmental agencies and committees, and financiers
- Conduct occasional on-site quality surveillance of subsurface exploration programs, pile installation and pile testing
- Occasional domestic and/or international travel
Requirements:
- This position requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical focus
- 5+ years of detailed geotechnical design, including soil remediation, deep foundations, driven, predrilled, and helical pile design
- Experience in working in design of power, transmission, or other heavy industry projects, including on-site quality surveillance of subsurface exploration programs, pile installation and pile testing
- Experience in writing and providing support documentation for Geotechnical Engineering specifications or calculations
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical evaluation report writing
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to earn one
- Experience specific to wind turbine generation and/or solar PV design
- Experience with unique subsurface conditions
- Technical evaluation report writing
- Ability and willingness to travel, both domestic and international
