Elevate Legal Talent is seeking a Patent Prosecution Attorney with a strong background in Mechanical Engineering to support a growing intellectual property practice. This role involves working with sophisticated technologies and partnering with inventors and engineers to develop and protect valuable patent portfolios.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, draft, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications related to mechanical and electromechanical technologies
- Work closely with engineers and inventors to identify patentable innovations involving machinery, manufacturing systems, robotics, automotive components, aerospace technologies, medical devices, energy systems, and industrial equipment
- Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, validity, and prior art analyses
- Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions and coordinate prosecution strategy with foreign associates
- Manage domestic and international patent portfolios for mechanical engineering-based technologies
- Provide strategic counseling regarding patent protection, competitive landscapes, and innovation strategies
- Support IP due diligence efforts in connection with transactions, licensing agreements, partnerships, and technology transfers
- Analyze competitor patent portfolios and emerging industry trends to support business objectives
Requirements:
- JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- USPTO registration required
- 3+ years of patent prosecution experience, preferably focused on mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing technologies
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering required
- Strong experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications involving complex mechanical systems and products
- Excellent analytical, technical writing, and client communication skills
- Ability to effectively interact with engineers, scientists, inventors, and business stakeholders
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Experience with robotics, automation, aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, energy, medical device, or industrial technologies
- Experience managing global patent portfolios
- Law firm or sophisticated in-house patent prosecution experience
