Summary

The Child Care Licensing unit of Children & Family Services (CFS) is seeking a Social Worker/Sr. Social Worker (SW/SSW) to support the licensing of family child care providers across Hennepin County. Licensing staff will partner with providers to ensure high quality, safe child care and full compliance with Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) rules and statutes. The ideal candidate is passionate about promoting safe, nurturing environments for children and supporting providers through clear communication, accountability, strong working relationships, and general contributions to community engagement, recruitment efforts, and program quality assurance. 

Salary will be based upon qualifications:
Social Worker $63,635.45 - $96,126.92 Annually
Senior Social Worker $70,171.58 - $105,993.42 Annually

Location and hours:

This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at various designated CFS satellite offices, in the community, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but flexibility will be required to occasionally work outside of these hours, and at times will include evenings and weekends. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements, hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

This is a full-time, benefit-earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Hennepin County's Human Services Public Health department to apply for this position. Limited duration employees are not eligible.

In the Social Worker/Senior Social Worker position, you will:

• Manage a high-volume provider caseload and stay current on all DCYF licensing rules and statutes.
• Conduct unannounced inspections of licensed family child care homes.
• Prepare paperwork, document all interactions, and maintain accurate records.
• Issue and follow up on correction orders as needed.
• Provide guidance, support, and resources to licensed providers.
• Participate in general activities that support community engagement, provider recruitment, and ongoing program quality assurance, as assigned.

• Provide consultation and participate in workgroups, committees, and other initiatives as permanency subject matter expert (SME). 
• Assist in the development and implementation of trainings and best practices related to the program area.
• Assist with the onboarding and mentoring/on-the-job training for new staff and/or interns. 

Need to have:

• For hire as a Social Worker, one of the following:
  • Licensed as a Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, or equivalent field.
• For hire as a Senior Social Worker, one of the following:
  • Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the above areas, and three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.
  • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles or social welfare.
• A valid driver's license and daily access to reliable transportation to travel primarily within/outside of the metro area to meet with clients in their residential settings and/or perform authorized off-site work duties.

• Experience:
  • Effectively interacting with people from diverse backgrounds including efforts towards disparity reduction.
  • Using Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.
  • Working with child care licensing, registration, and background study procedures.
  • Providing professional social work services, such as case management in fields that may include child protection, child welfare, adoption or permanency, or foster care licensing, to families caring for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. 
  • Working within Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) rules and statutes.
  • Working with databases, data entry, electronic calendars, and email systems.
  • Communicating both verbally and in writing, including phone skills to obtain accurate data, and recording the information clearly and concisely. 
• Knowledge of: 
  • County and community resources, including culturally relevant services.
  • Statutes and rules pertaining to child protection, foster care, and permanency. 
• Ability to: 
  • Recognize and respect cultural differences.
  • Think critically and problem solve.
  • Prioritize multiple demands.
  • Function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and independent judgment.
  • Effectively work across a variety of systems.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills.
