General Position Summary:

The Teen Choir Director oversees all aspects of the Teen Choir Music Ministry at Good Shepherd Catholic Community. This person will have a vast background in liturgical music, and, in addition, have knowledge of appropriate vocal technique for 7th-12th grade-aged students.

Principal Accountabilities:

Directs weekly rehearsals of the GSCC Teen Choir, including extra rehearsals of choirs in preparation for Easter, Christmas, Advent services, and Lenten services.
Works with GSCC Music Director to support Teen Cantors in the GSCC Music Ministry.
Attends a monthly GSCC Music Staff meeting.
Plans all music for the GSCC Teen Choir.
Is present at least forty-five minutes before serving at Mass to rehearse Cantor and/or choir.
Uses rehearsal time wisely to be prepared for weekly rehearsals and Mass.
Secures additional instruments when needed.
Works with GSCC Music Director to purchase appropriate choral music for the Teen Choir.
Recruits New Members for the Ministry, and works to Retain Current Members

The Diocese, Pastors, Priests, Principals, Business Managers, and employees.

Choir Members, Instrumentalists, Parishioners

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and sing for lengthy periods of time during rehearsals and liturgies.
Will require night, weekend, and holiday activity
At-home (off-clock) music practice and preparation is expected

Travel Requirements:

Infrequent travel, by car, may be required to Diocese Parishes and/or schools.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in voice (performance or education), either complete or in progress
Previous choral experience in a liturgical or classical setting

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

Active member of a Roman Catholic parish.
Basic qualifications would include:
Ability to choose appropriate music for Catholic liturgies.
Ability to play piano/organ at sight.
Experience working with adult singers and running choral rehearsals
Enthusiastic willingness to work with people.
Knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy including documents, music resources, and familiarity with Lectionary and Sacramentary.

Demonstrated ability to listen empathetically, make peace, and de-escalate
Demonstrated history of good judgement.
Demonstrated aptitude for adaptability and flexibility.
Ability to use various computer software programs; strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially in Word and Excel.
Ability to use various office machines (copier, fax, phones, calculator, scanner, etc.) or ability to learn.
Ability to meet deadlines and follow directives from Pastor or Chief of Staff in a timely manner.
Ability to receive, understand, retain, and complete verbal and written tasks.
Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
Ability to provide excellent customer service and work efficiently with staff, clergy, religious, and laity.
Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work well with people from a diverse variety of audiences.
Excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills.
