Technical Business Analyst

Exavalu is seeking an experienced Technical Business Analyst to bridge Product and IT within a commercial Property & Casualty insurance environment. The role translates business objectives and functional requirements into implementation-ready technical requirements, supports backlog governance and defect triage, coordinates Jira workflows and QA release notes, and facilitates collaboration across business and technical teams.

Responsibilities:

• Lead discovery and requirements clarification sessions to understand business objectives, user workflows, business rules, exceptions, data requirements, and expected outcomes
• Translate functional features and business requirements into technical user stories, tasks, and measurable acceptance criteria
• Document process flows, field mappings, validations, integration requirements, interface behavior, non-functional requirements, assumptions, and key decision points
• Break down complex capabilities into appropriately sized, actionable backlog items
• Identify and resolve requirement ambiguity before stories enter a sprint
• Maintain traceability from initial feature requirements through development, testing, defect resolution, and release
• Partner with Product Owners and technical leads to maintain the health and readiness of the sprint and refinement backlog
• Coordinate story refinement, readiness reviews, estimation preparation, sequencing, and dependency identification
• Ensure Jira stories contain complete descriptions, testable acceptance criteria, supporting documentation, links, priorities, and dependency information
• Proactively review upcoming work and identify potential requirements, data, integration, design, and delivery risks
• Facilitate early discussions to resolve risks and dependencies before they impact delivery
• Manage requirement changes during execution and communicate scope or acceptance-criteria changes to impacted stakeholders
• Partner with QA, Product, and Engineering teams during defect triage
• Compare observed system behavior against approved requirements, acceptance criteria, and expected business outcomes
• Assess business, user, data, workflow, integration, and release impacts to support objective defect severity and priority decisions
• Ensure defects include reproducible steps, supporting evidence, affected scenarios, expected behavior, and links to relevant requirements or stories
• Facilitate discussions around defect disposition, remediation scope, retesting expectations, sequencing, and release inclusion
• Analyze recurring defect patterns and improve requirements and acceptance criteria to reduce future issues
• Work with Jira administrators and delivery leads to support project board setup and workflow configuration
• Help define and maintain Jira boards, workflows, issue types, fields, filters, permissions, dashboards, and reporting views
• Support ongoing Jira board maintenance, including backlog organization, workflow alignment, field and filter updates, dashboard accuracy, and data quality
• Ensure Jira configuration supports requirements traceability, backlog management, defect tracking, dependency management, and release reporting
• Coordinate Jira configuration enhancements as project and delivery requirements evolve
• Prepare concise and accurate QA release notes for planned code drops and test releases
• Validate release scope with Engineering, DevOps, QA, and Product before communications are issued
• Document included features, user stories, defect fixes, known limitations, configuration/data considerations, deployment status, and validation expectations
• Maintain traceability between release communications, Jira items, deployed scope, and testing activities
• Communicate deferrals, scope changes, and release risks promptly to relevant stakeholders
• Coordinate requirements and delivery dependencies across Product, IT, QA, Data, DevOps, API Management, Infrastructure, and partner teams
• Maintain decision logs, process flows, interface documentation, requirements artifacts, templates, and checklists
• Provide clear status updates covering requirement readiness, open decisions, defects, dependencies, and release scope
• Facilitate collaboration between business and technical stakeholders to ensure shared understanding of requirements and delivery expectations

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field , or equivalent relevant experience
• 5+ years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst within the commercial Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry
• Strong experience translating functional/business requirements into:
• Technical user stories
• Detailed requirements
• Acceptance criteria
• Process flows
• Data requirements
• Integration specifications
• Hands-on experience with Jira, Agile/Scrum delivery, backlog management, requirements traceability, and defect tracking
• Strong understanding of workflows, data flows, APIs/integrations, field mappings, validation rules, and exception scenarios
• Experience working closely with Product, Engineering, QA, Data, DevOps, and other technical teams throughout the SDLC
• Experience supporting defect analysis, impact/severity assessment, triage, and release management
• Experience preparing and communicating QA release notes and release scope to stakeholders
• Strong analytical, facilitation, documentation, written communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations within a fast-paced, multi-team environment
• Current CBAP, CCBA, or PMI-PBA certification is required
