Senior DevOps Engineer | AWS | EC2 | Multi-Account | IAM / Security Hub | Remote (US)

Optimal is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to become the first dedicated DevOps hire in its growing US technology business. The role will own and consolidate a multi-account AWS environment, manage EC2 fleets, enforce security controls, build observability, prepare systems for traffic spikes, and gradually take on application-level work.

Responsibilities:

• Owning and consolidating infrastructure across multiple AWS accounts, enforcing least-privilege IAM
• Managing EC2 fleets, keeping servers current and preparing horizontal scaling for peak traffic
• Building out proper observability to protect that zero-downtime track record
• Raising AWS Security Hub scores, managing WAF rules and keeping the estate up to date
• Gradually taking on app-level work as the infrastructure settles

Requirements:

• 4+ years hands-on AWS, EC2 fleets, IAM, CloudWatch, multi-account ownership (Non-Negotiable)
• US citizens or Green Card holders only
• Deep EC2 experience and comfort managing fleets at scale
• Proven multi-account AWS ownership - IAM least-privilege and security scoring
• Hardening security posture: AWS Security Hub, WAF, keeping everything current
• Building real observability - CloudWatch metrics, alarms and monitoring
• You use AI tooling (Claude Code or similar) in your daily workflow, not as a gimmick
• Self-directed to the bone - you take ownership without waiting to be told
• Start up experience (nice to have)
• PHP / Laravel experience (the role may grow into application-level work)
• Startup or scale-up background - you'll feel right at home moving fast with high autonomy
• Leading incident response with proper root-cause analysis
