Staff Software Engineer, Billing

Zocdoc is a healthcare marketplace building infrastructure that helps patients access care and enables providers to connect with and care for their patients. The Staff Software Engineer, Billing will lead the evolution of Zocdoc’s billing platform, architect scalable pricing and billing systems, automate Finance workflows, drive high-visibility projects, and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Leading the architectural direction of Zocdoc's billing system as we build for the future - thinking how we can scale billing as the number of providers, patients, and products we support grow
• Building, maintaining, and improving modern, event driven workflow billing workflows and pricing algorithm systems
• Collaborating with Finance, Product, & Design to figure out how we can solve for provider and internal billing needs with efficient technical solutions
• Working with your engineering peers to define and implement best practices that ensure high code quality and system reliability for all new features and services
• Ensuring the ongoing accuracy and stability of the billing engine and financial data, and triaging any issues that arise (always with the team’s support)
• Integrating the latest edge GenAI tools and technology to optimize technical planning and coding efficiency across your team and the broader engineering organization

Requirements:

• Meaningful (8+) years of engineering experience building and scaling high-performance backend services, ETLs, and APIs within event-driven, distributed systems—ideally in environments where data reliability and integrity are paramount
• Familiarity with cloud-native environments (e.g., AWS) and the desire to own your team's infrastructure (as code!)
• The mentality of an owner with an unrelenting desire to drive projects to completion; you view ambiguity as an opportunity to provide technical clarity rather than a blocker
• Integrated generative AI tools into daily workflows to automate tasks, foster innovation, and maximize productivity
• Leadership experience steering teams toward best-in-class testing, deployment, and observability practices that amplify output and quality
