AI Engineer NYC Hybrid (AI Travel Tech)

The client is building an agentic travel system backed by Booking.com that uses real-time travel and hospitality inventory to complete bookings. The AI Engineer, Conversational Intelligence role will own the full conversational agent stack, including reasoning, memory, tool calling, reliability, rendering, model-provider integrations, and evaluation infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

• The entire agent architecture: prompt stack, tool calling, multi-step reasoning, streaming
• Conversational state and memory (productionizing their existing three-pass pipeline)
• Reliability across multi-turn flows: refinement loops, error recovery, graceful degradation
• The rendering layer connecting agent output to what the user actually sees and taps
• Multi-provider strategy across OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini — caching, structured outputs, fallback logic
• Eval infrastructure so "does the agent actually work" is a measurable thing, not a vibe
