Principal Product Manager, Savings (R13997)

Oportun is a mission-driven financial services company that helps members improve their financial future through intelligent borrowing, savings, and budgeting capabilities. The company is seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead the strategy, roadmap, and execution for its AI-powered Savings product, driving member growth and retention while partnering with cross-functional teams to launch and scale new features.

Responsibilities:

• You’ll lead the long-term product strategy and roadmap for Oportun’s Savings product in partnership with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
• You’ll scope and lead the development of new products and features designed to improve members’ financial health and strengthen growth and retention
• You’ll use customer research, experimentation, data, and product metrics to build a deep understanding of member needs and behaviors and translate those insights into product decisions
• You’ll lead a high-performing cross-functional product team across Engineering, Design, Data, Marketing, Legal, and Customer Support to bring new capabilities to market
• You’ll drive alignment across teams and leadership through clear communication, thoughtful documentation, and strong product judgment
• You’ll navigate complex legal and regulatory considerations while keeping the team focused on member outcomes and execution
• You’ll bring ideas for how we can do things better, proactively, not just when asked
• You’ll look for ways to use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate product discovery, improve decision-making, reduce manual work, and create stronger member experiences

Requirements:

• 7+ years of product management experience, including experience building and scaling products in high-growth environments
• A strong track record of defining product strategy, building roadmaps, and shipping products that deliver measurable customer and business outcomes
• Strong customer orientation and a passion for building products that improve financial health
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with experimentation, product metrics, data analysis, and data-informed decision-making
• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional product teams and building alignment across Engineering, Design, Data, Marketing, Legal, Customer Support, and senior leadership
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex product decisions clearly and concisely
• Experience navigating ambiguity, removing blockers, and driving execution across complex product initiatives
• Experience in financial services, fintech, digital banking, or another highly regulated industry
• Experience launching products within complex legal or regulatory frameworks
• Experience using SQL or similar tools to support product analysis and decision-making
• Experience working with globally distributed or multinational teams
• Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar tools to improve product discovery, analysis, or productivity
