About the Role

We are looking for an experienced SAP IS-U Device Management (DM/EDM) Consultant to support and enhance meter-to-cash processes for our energy/utilities operations. The ideal candidate will bring deep functional expertise in Device Management along with strong exposure to the plant/energy business environment (power generation, distribution, or metering operations).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide end-to-end functional support for SAP IS-U Device Management module, including configuration, enhancement, and production support

• Manage device installation, removal, replacement, and technical master data (connection objects, premises, installations, devices, device categories)

• Configure and support meter reading processes: MR unit creation, MRO scheduling, meter reading order generation, upload/download, and validation

• Handle register-based and interval/AMI (smart meter) data processing, including profile management and Meter Data Unification & Synchronization (MDUS) where applicable

• Support integration between Device Management and Billing, Rate Determination, and FICA modules

• Manage move-in/move-out processes and their impact on device/technical master data

• Troubleshoot meter reading exceptions, plausibility checks, and estimation processes

• Support periodic and on-demand meter reading cycles, including bulk processing and mass activities

• Work closely with Billing and MDM teams to resolve device-to-bill integration issues

• Analyze and resolve production incidents; perform root-cause analysis for recurring meter reading/device issues

• Prepare functional specifications for custom developments (BAPIs, user exits, enhancements) and coordinate with ABAP teams

• Support smart metering/AMI integration projects, including head-end system (HES) interfaces where relevant

• Participate in testing cycles (unit, integration, UAT) for enhancements, patches, and system upgrades

• Document processes, configurations, and provide knowledge transfer to junior team members

• Ensure SLA adherence in an offshore delivery model, coordinating effectively with onshore stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of overall SAP experience, with at least 6 8 years in SAP IS-U Device Management

• Prior experience working in a plant, power generation, or energy/utility company environment (highly preferred)

• Strong hands-on configuration experience in DM: installation structures, register/device categories, meter reading units, and reading results processing

• Good understanding of integration with IS-U Billing, Rate Determination, and FICA

• Experience with meter reading order (MRO) processing, upload/download, and estimation/plausibility logic

• Exposure to smart metering/AMI concepts and interval data handling (MDMDM systems)

• Working knowledge of mass activities, background job scheduling, and performance tuning in DM

• Experience in incident/problem management tools (ServiceNow, Solution Manager, etc.)

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

• Excellent communication skills to work effectively with onshore/offshore teams

• ITIL process awareness for support engagements

Preferred/Good to Have

• Exposure to S/4HANA Utilities (C4U) and smart meter integration architecture

• Knowledge of SAP MDUS (Meter Data Unification and Synchronization) or third-party MDM systems

• Experience with regulatory metering/reporting requirements for power/energy utilities

• SAP certification in IS-U

• Experience working with global energy/utility clients on AMI/smart grid initiatives

Soft Skills

• Strong stakeholder management and offshore-onshore coordination experience

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Strong documentation and presentation skills
