Software / Data Engineer

West 4th Strategy, LLC is seeking a Software / Data Engineer to support the Department of War’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO). The role focuses on researching, designing, and enhancing software while developing and maintaining data pipelines, ETL workflows, automation, and database capabilities using technologies such as R, SQL, Databricks, and Python.

Responsibilities:

• Research, design, and develop computer and network software or specialized utility programs
• Analyze user needs and develop software solutions using principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis
• Update software and enhance existing software capabilities to meet evolving mission requirements
• Develop and implement data pipelines using ETL platforms and languages such as Databricks, Python, and R
• Use R and/or SQL for data manipulation, extraction, transformation, and analytical workflows
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines and automation efforts
• Support development of specifications and performance requirements in coordination with technical team members
• Maintain databases within the application area, working independently or coordinating database development as part of a team
• Collaborate across functional teams and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements:

• Three (3) to ten (10) years of directly related experience
• At least three (3) years of experience as a Data Engineer
• High-level proficiency and professional experience using R and/or SQL for data manipulation, extraction, and transformation tasks
• Experience developing and implementing data pipelines using ETL platforms and languages such as Databricks, Python, and/or R
• Hands-on experience maintaining and optimizing data pipelines and automation efforts
• B.A./B.S. or M.A./M.S. in a related field
• Remote - Full telework
• Active Secret security clearance
• U.S. citizenship is required
• Experience working in Advana
• Experience working with and cleaning survey data
• Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality results with little direction or oversight
• Experience working in cross-functional teams and communicating technical information to technical and non-technical audiences
