Engineering Manager, Marketing Technology

REI Co-op is an outdoor retail cooperative focused on helping people discover and pursue a love of the outdoors. REI is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Marketing Technology team, deliver scalable technology solutions across Content Supply Chain, AdTech, and SEO, and support platform modernization, process improvement, AI-assisted ways of working, and digital experience outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results
• Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods, and practices to promote REI key messages
• Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results
• Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements
• Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions
• Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews
• Provides coaching, direction, and leadership support to employees to achieve department, company, and customer results
• Establishes and maintains visibility within the department
• Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances, and issues, and takes appropriate action
• Has familiarity with technologies used by the team, including modern web application technologies, APIs and event-driven architectures, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), source control platforms (e.g., GitHub), CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms, and AI-enabled engineering productivity tools
• Has familiarity with one or more Marketing Technology domains, including:

• Content Supply Chain platforms, including Digital Asset Management (DAM), Media Asset Management (MAM), content operations, and studio workflow systems.
• AdTech platforms and capabilities, including audience activation, campaign measurement, advertising technology integrations, and Retail Media Network (RMN) solutions.
• SEO technologies and practices, including metadata management, structured content, content discoverability, search optimization, analytics, and related tooling

• Able to use business knowledge to guide team technical decisions
• Strong analytical, problem solving and process improvement skills
• Evaluates existing applications to determine technical changes
• Sets and implements procedures related to quality standards
• Loves to provide hands-on guidance to team members

• Serves as a liaison to senior management reporting on the status of current WIP, identifying obstacles with associated impacts, proactively recommending solutions
• Experience managing others as direct reports and responsible for coaching their career development and performance
• Manages team in support of departmental objectives
• Seeks feedback from others to encourage collaboration
• Helps to build consensus and morale

Requirements:

• • Bachelor's degree in computer science or business administration, or equivalent training and experience
• • 2+ years supervisory experience in the information technology field and the ability to direct technical work teams
• • 5+ years experience in information technology, including leading teams in systems analysis or software engineering
• • 5+ years experience in software development
• • 5+ years experience planning, organizing and directing systems development projects
• • Experience developing long-term technology strategies
• • Experience managing multiple project teams
• • Experience developing team-level plans and contributing to annual budgets
• • Experience supporting one or more Marketing Technology domains, including Content Supply Chain, AdTech, Retail Media, SEO, digital marketing, content operations, or related platforms
• • Knowledge of methodologies, standards, procedures and organization that contribute to the development and deployment of technology solutions
• • Skills in resource management, project prioritization, problem solving, issue management and negotiation, and mediation
• • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and respond quickly to critical issues
• • Systems analysis and design skills
• • Knowledge of business principles from multiple disciplines and ability to apply those principles
• • Ability to manage customer and vendor relationships
