Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead

Talkspace is an online therapy company focused on making quality mental healthcare accessible. The Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead leads engineering teams in developing and releasing software features, resolving technical challenges, and maintaining high code quality. The role also mentors junior engineers, supports hiring and training, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready projects.

Responsibilities:

• Leads software engineering teams by guiding feature development, troubleshooting technical issues, and managing product releases
• Plans large tasks and delegates work to team members to ensure effective execution
• Takes responsibility for code quality assurance, reviewing pull requests to maintain high code standards and adherence to guidelines
• Ensures the delivery of complex, production-ready features to QA, minimizing bugs and improving code quality
• Demonstrates persistence when facing roadblocks and collaborates with others to solve problems
• Proficient in at least one area of coding (backend, frontend, devops) with a solid understanding of industry trends and standards
• Capable of reviewing code efficiently and providing constructive feedback
• Demonstrates a big-picture viewpoint with a strong understanding of business problems
• Promotes transparency within the team, sharing challenges, failures, and successes
• Maintains a high contribution rate to the codebase and actively addresses bugs and opens tickets for improvements
• Mentors junior engineers and helps with hiring and training technical personnel
• Oversees system updates, monitors system health, and ensures that all applications are up-to-date
• Holds end-to-end responsibility for getting features production-ready and identifies potential risks in code
• Helps ensure consistency and quality in the codebase through pull request reviews and feedback
• Advocates for and enforces proper QA practices across the projects involved
• Collaborates with team members to identify and solve technical challenges
• Creates an environment where team members feel motivated to ask questions, voice concerns, and contribute ideas
• Serves as a liaison between engineering, management, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project completion
• Effectively communicates technical decisions through design documents, technical discussions, and comprehensive documentation
• Provides mentorship to junior engineers through pairing, feedback, and regular 1:1 meetings
• Communicates proactively with cross-functional teams, including product management and business teams, to address project needs and potential issues
• Identifies and communicates potential project risks and requirements issues to stakeholders in a timely manner
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math
• 6+ years of professional experience working in both react and node.js
• 5+ years of professional experience in software development
• 3+ years of experience supporting teams or collaborating with subject matter experts, with a focus on contributing to team success and learning from leadership
• Strong technical expertise and understanding of industry trends, with the ability to provide insights and assistance to the team when needed
