Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead

NinjaOne provides a Unified IT Operations Platform for endpoint management, patching, backup, and remote access. The Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead will shape technical direction, lead large-scale initiatives, design scalable high-availability systems, mentor engineers, and establish engineering standards across teams.

Responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership & Architecture: Influence critical architectural decisions and oversee the implementation of complex technical solutions. Bring deep system design expertise to ensure the long-term sustainability and scalability of our systems, balancing technical debt, performance, and business needs
• Autonomous Decision-Making: Make high-impact technical choices with minimal oversight. You are a go-to voice for evaluating trade-offs and setting direction across your domain
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams to align on technical decisions and ensure solutions are both practical and forward-looking
• Mentorship & Standards: Mentor and elevate engineers across the organization, guiding best practices and helping establish technical standards that raise the bar for the entire engineering team
• Ownership of Large-Scale Initiatives: Take full ownership of complex, multi-team initiatives, proactively identifying challenges, driving resolutions, and incorporating insights from customer support and operational data
• Quality Advocacy: Champion and implement quality assurance practices to deliver robust, high-performance software that meets our customers’ high expectations
• AI-Assisted Engineering: Use AI tools in your daily workflow and help your team adopt AI-assisted practices responsibly and effectively
• Other duties as needed

Requirements:

• 12+ years of Java software development, particularly for product applications
• 5+ years designing and operating highly scalable systems
• Proven experience solving complex system design challenges at scale, including identifying bottlenecks, quantifying improvements (throughput/latency), and clearly articulating your personal contributions
• Hands-on production experience implementing distributed-systems patterns such as Saga, CQRS, outbox, circuit breaker, bulkhead, event sourcing, and idempotency keys, including handling partial failures and building compensation logic
• Expertise in API design and RESTful services, with experience in frameworks like Spring (Spring Boot) or Jersey
• Experience building systems that integrate with APIs, webhooks, and third-party platforms, and designing extensible integration architectures that don't require rewriting core logic for each new integration
• Proficiency in relational database design and development, including schema and data modeling, normalization vs. denormalization, indexing and partitioning, and efficient querying of large tables
• Experience debugging complex database issues (performance, data integrity, migrations) and evaluating relational vs. non-relational stores for new systems
• Strong command of object-oriented programming (OOP) design principles and practices
• In-depth knowledge of quality testing practices and a track record of delivering high-quality software
• Active, practical use of AI tools across coding, testing, debugging, and code review, with a sound approach to validating AI-generated code before it ships
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience
