Business/Data Analyst - Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance

Cognizant is seeking a Business/Data Analyst with Property & Casualty insurance expertise to support development of an Analytical Data Lakehouse. The role translates business reporting and analytical needs into data requirements and collaborates with business stakeholders and technical teams on data design, analysis, validation, governance, and documentation.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document data and reporting requirements
• Facilitate workshops, discovery sessions, and stakeholder interviews to understand business objectives and reporting needs
• Translate business requirements into detailed data specifications, business rules, mappings, transformations, and acceptance criteria
• Define and document reporting use cases, KPIs, metrics, dimensions, hierarchies, and business definitions
• Ensure requirements are clearly communicated and understood by technical delivery teams
• Collaborate with data architects and engineering teams to support the design and implementation of an Analytical Data Lakehouse
• Ensure business requirements are accurately reflected within data models, data pipelines, and reporting datasets
• Help define data structures that support both operational reporting and advanced analytics use cases
• Contribute to strategic planning for future data and analytics capabilities
• Analyze source systems and end-to-end data flows to identify required data elements and reporting requirements
• Support data profiling, mapping, lineage analysis, and validation activities
• Perform SQL-based data analysis and validation to verify business requirements are correctly implemented
• Assist with reconciliation and quality assurance efforts across complex datasets
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and business validation activities
• Work closely with: Business Stakeholders; Product Owners; Data Architects; Data Engineers; BI & Reporting Teams; Project Managers
• Facilitate discussions to resolve requirement gaps, data issues, and business questions
• Build consensus across technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Provide regular updates and ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle
• Maintain traceability between business requirements, data requirements, technical specifications, and reporting outputs
• Create and manage: Business Requirements Documents; Data Requirements Specifications; Data Mapping Documents; Source-to-Target Mappings; Data Dictionaries; UAT Documentation
• Ensure documentation adheres to governance and project standards

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
• Strong experience as a: Business Analyst; Data Analyst; Business Systems Analyst within data, analytics, business intelligence, or data platform initiatives
• Strong Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance domain knowledge
• Experience gathering, documenting, and managing data and reporting requirements
• Ability to translate business terminology and reporting needs into technical and data requirements
• Strong understanding of: Data Modeling; Data Mapping; Data Lineage; Data Quality; Reporting & Analytics Concepts
• Advanced SQL skills for data analysis, profiling, and validation
• Experience working with: Business Stakeholders; Data Architects; Data Engineers; Business Intelligence Teams
• Excellent communication, facilitation, documentation, and stakeholder management skills
• Experience with modern cloud-based Data Lakehouse platforms, including: Databricks; Snowflake; Microsoft Azure; Equivalent cloud data platforms
• Familiarity with P&C insurance data domains including: Policy; Claims; Billing; Customer/Party; Producer/Agency; Product; Coverage; Premium; Loss
• Experience supporting enterprise analytics modernization initiatives
• Knowledge of dimensional modeling and analytical data structures
• Experience developing source-to-target mappings and business data definitions
• Familiarity with Agile project delivery methodologies
