Lactation Consultant, RN – Pediatrics

Role Overview

• Provide lactation support and services to breastfeeding mother/infant dyads
• Collaborate with assigned team to develop feeding plans
• Use current evidence to develop feeding plans that address individual feeding issues while respecting the family's breastfeeding goals
• Assess adequacy of breastfeeding and provide interventions and patient education as necessary
• Assess lactation needs by obtaining medical histories and examining patients
• Document physical, psychological, and social factors to develop an individualized plan of care
• Promote continuity of care by communicating with the interdisciplinary team
• Assist mothers of infants who cannot breastfeed

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited BSN program
• Two years of RN experience
• IBCLC Certification by IBLCE
• Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina
• BLS certification
