Role Overview
Immerse yourself in client workflows to understand how public health staff actually do their work, with particular depth in environmental health programs
Identify pain points, inefficiencies, and opportunities that clients may not have articulated
Synthesize input from multiple stakeholders into coherent solution recommendations
Translate complex public health processes into clear user stories and acceptance criteria
Lead discovery sessions and workshops with health department staff
Serve as the voice of the client within our technical teams
Develop process flows, documentation, and visual aids that communicate the "why" behind solutions
Challenge assumptions and push back when proposed solutions don't fit client realities
Requirements
2+ years working in governmental public health (local, state, federal, or tribal)
Demonstrated ability to understand complex systems and workflows
Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience translating between technical and non-technical audiences
Self-motivated with strong initiative
Adaptability in dynamic environments
Comfort working with AI tools and large language models
Direct experience in environmental health programs at a local health department (e.g., inspections, permitting, compliance, complaint response)
Familiarity with user story development and acceptance criteria writing
Experience with discovery techniques (journey mapping, interviews, observation)
